Paragyu
Born in Tanau Village, Hinthada Town at 10th November in 1921.Studied in Tanau Village Primary School from Kindergarden to Fourth Standard.At the age of eleven, he became a novice and studied monastery education at the monastery.
Then he moved to Myit_Kwe Monastery(where Bddhist Scriptures are taught to monks) and studied Pali Literature.
In 1935,He studied Pali Literature in Pahtamapyan Monastery in Lahayat Village, Thanlyin Town when he was fifteen years old.He passed lower class of Pahtamapyan Examination(examination held to test one's knowledge of Buddhist Scriptures),passed intermediate class in sixteen years old and highest class in seventeen years old.
He started to write in 1938.He wroted in Dagon Magazine and Toetetyay Magazine.At the end of World War II (1947), he studied Hindi and Thata Language in Bayanathi Hindu University in Bayanathi Town , India.
He came back to Myanmar in 1953 and entered the field of Literature.In 1956, he attended Asia Writers Conference which was held in New Delhi, India as a representative of Myanmar Writers.
In 1972, he got Literature Award (first prize in translation) with his book " Nyi Taw Min Nan". In 1986, he got National Literature Translation Award with his book " Gawdi".He got U Ohn Phay Literature Award ( Literature award for lifetme).
He is the first person who got National Literature Award for lifetime.He also got Outstanding Award in Arts Subject.He wrote about 100 books.(include translation books )
He is a member of Reference Book Editing Associaton in Information Department.He is also a member of Board of Study, Pali Department in Myanmar Universities and Colleges for twenty
years.Now he is the president of Myanmar Hindi Literature Association and Myanmar Tago Association.
He is now building a library named "Paragyu Shantinikaytar Library " in U Pon Nya Street,
Shwe Pauk Kan and its nearly finished.He hopes
that the library is the third largest library in Myanmar.
