Hirvitalo tarjoaa ilmaisia näyttelyaikoja sekä tilaa tapahtumanjärjestäjille kevätkaudelle 23.2. – 7.7.2013.  Näyttely- ja tapahtumahaun teemana on tänä vuonna Sähkötön galleria, jonka toivomme huomioitavan hakemuksissa. Vapaamuotoisten hakemuksien on oltava perillä ma 4.2. klo 20 mennessä. Hakemuksissa on kerrottava ainakin tarvittavan tilan määrä, toive ajankohdasta, kuvaus näyttelyideasta ja mielellään teos- tai suunnitelmakuvia. Valittujen näyttelyiden ja tapahtumien toteuttamiseen annetaan pienimuotoinen korvaus materiaali- ja matkakulujen kattamiseen.

Teemana Sähkötön galleria

Tänä vuonna Hirvitalo osallistuu 23.3. järjestettävään Earth Hour -tapahtumaan katkaisemalla galleriatiloistaan sähköt kuukaudeksi.

Earth Hour eli Maan tunti on maailmanlaajuinen ilmastotapahtuma, joka järjestetään lauantaina 23.3. kello 20.30–21.30. Sen aikana ihmiset eri puolilla maapalloa sammuttavat sähkövalonsa ja kertovat näin huolensa ilmastonmuutoksesta.

Hirvitalo haastaa Maan tunnista alkavalla kuukauden näyttelyajan mittaisella sähköttömyydellä kulttuurikenttää ja erityisesti taidetiloja pohtimaan rooliaan kuluttamiseen liittyvien normien muokkaajina.

Nykykulttuurin valtavirta näyttäisi kuvataiteessakin suosivan yhä enemmän sähkön ja luonnovarojen kerskakulutusta. Epäekologiset vau arkkitehtuurimuseohankkeet, myymälämäisen valkoseinäisen galleriatilan estetiikkaan perustuva hypersiisteys sekä yhä intensiivisemmin flatscreenejä, videotykkejä, uusimpia Macin tietokoneita ja muuta kulutuselektroniikkaa ihannoivat esityskäytännöt kertovat taidemaailman vallitsevista arvostuksista.

Sähköttömyys ei ole pelkästään eettinen tai ekologinen kysymys, vaan myös – ja ehkä ennen kaikkea – esteettinen. Hirvitalon Sähkötön galleria -teema antaa tilaisuuden pohtia sähkövalottoman esitystilan suhdetta ympäristönsä valaistukseen ja luonnonvaloon, kokeilla sähköttömiä ääniteoksia tai tarkastella sähkön vaikutusta näyttely-yleisön tottumuksiin kohdata taidetta.

Haemme sähköttömyyden luovasti huomioon ottavia näyttely- ja tapahtumaehdotuksia erityisesti 23.3. – 14.4. kestävälle sähköttömälle ajalle. Toivomme kuitenkin näyttelyhaun teeman näkymistä jollain tavalla myös muille kauden ajoille ehdotetuissa hakemuksissa.

Näyttely- ja tapahtuma-ajankohdat

Pyrimme jaksottamaan kevään näyttelyt niin, että jokaisen näyttelyn jälkeen jää viikonloppu erityisesti tapahtumia varten. Tapahtumajärjestäjien kannattaakin hakea tilaa käyttöönsä erityisesti heille varatuille ajoille.

Pispalan nykytaiteen keskus Hirvitalo on taiteilijoille, tapahtumanjärjestäjille ja yleisölle ilmainen näyttely- ja tapahtumatila, jonka toimintatavat tähtäävät yhdessä tekemisen ilmapiirin luomiseen.
Hirvitalo pyrkii edesauttamaan mahdollisimman monipuolisen ja elävän kulttuuririntaman muodostumista ja hyvinvointia Tampereella ja erityisesti Pispalassa.

Hirvitalo offers free space for exhibition and event organizers for the spring season 23rd Feb – 7th Jul 2013. Theme for this year’s call is ‘Gallery without Electricity’, which we hope artists will take into account. Free-form applications must be arrived at the latest by Monday 4th Feb 20 o’clock. Applications must have at least information of the space required, the planned exhibition date and a description of the concept preferably with few images. There’s a modest compensation of material and travel expenses preserved for the selected candidates.

Gallery without Electricity

This year Hirvitalo participates to the Earth Hour event by turning off its gallery space’s electricity for a month in 23rd March.

Earth Hour is a climate awareness event of global scale, which will take place on Saturday 23rd March at 20.30 – 21.30 local time. During this period, people across the globe express their concern for climate change by turning off all electric lights.

Hirvitalo challenges the art world, particularly the exhibition spaces to reflect on their roles in setting the norms on consumption in society.

The mainstream of global contemporary art world seems to favor more and more boastful consumption of electricity and natural resources. Non-ecological massive art museum projects, the white box gallery aesthetics based on hyper-cleanliness and intensifying use of flat screens, data projectors, the latest Mac computers and other consumer electronics as part of exhibition spaces’ normal practice reflects the art world’s current values.

The refusal of the use of electricity is not only an ethical or ecological issue, but also – and perhaps above all – aesthetic one. Hirvitalo’s theme provides an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between the exhibition space and the lighting of its surroundings, study the rhythm of natural light, experiment with non-electric acoustic works or investigate the impact of electricity to the way audience experiences the art works displayed.

We are looking for proposals that regard the theme of lack of electricity in a creative way, particularly for the 23rd March – 14th April period, when all electricity will be off in the gallery space.

The exhibition and event dates

We are offering the following times for exhibitions and events. We recommend events organizers to apply time outside the planned exhibition times to avoid possible difficulties of using the space during the exhibition.
