Method
-To start your morning with Yoga practice can be very beneficial for health. We all know
that there are several yoga versions like Astanga, Hatta, power yoga etc. We will concentrate here
with the Patanjali Yoga practice, the origin of all variations of Yoga. This will be our continuation
of Morning Yoga session which started in the last summer. We will emphasize here more on
relaxation of body with stretches, asanas (postures with stretching and breathing) and
Pranayamas (breathing techniques). Three ancient concept known in sanskrit - “Sthira-Sukham-
Asanam”; will be the basic method of these Yoga session. It is translated as:- Sthira – steady or
stable. Sukham – effortless or ease filled. Asanam – to sit or perform with grace. It is much more
comfortable to perform yoga in loose clothes. Participants should bring mats with them. Regular
involvement of the participants will be much more encouraged rather than just being curious and
to accept the session with open mind to enjoy the sessions.

About the Instructor- Suva will be the Yoga instructor, He is from India. He has been practicing
Yoga since his childhood. He is trained in the traditional form of Yoga- Patanjali Yoga and
practiced in several Yoga organization in India. Through the Organizations He did a project called
Samohik Surya namaskar (collective Sun Salutation event) in 1997 where he was handling 1000
school children to perform together. Recently in Spring He has given courses in Yoga in Theater
Academy Helsinki in The spring under the Joint studies program. He relies mostly on the
therapeutic part mostly inclined towards healing and curing rather than acrobatic approach which
modern day yoga concentrates upon. He emphasizes on realization of the body-mind co-
ordination through breathing techniques and gives importance to understand each postures
(Asanas).


Some basic information of Yoga
Astanga (eight limbs) basically means eight vital practice according to the ancient text of “
Patanjali Yoga Sutra” which are :-
Yama (restrictions), Niyama (observance), Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing practice),
Pratyahara (sense withdrawal or non-attachment), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation)
and Samadhi (realization of the true self or Atman and unity with the Brahman- the Divine). Here
the emphasis will be mostly on the third and fourth limb with the help of thre sixth limb; which
helps in understanding the beginning stage of Yoga practice. Practically there are around 900
postures acknowledged in the Yoga practice from various schools of yoga in India and which are
collected from 35 ancient texts, epics and scriptures. It is obvious that all these postures will be a
vast thing to follow therefore this session is mainly concentrated on the relaxation part. Three
important aspects are very important here :- how to get into the posture, how to be in the
posture and how to get back from the posture. These three aspects are done with constant
breathing techniques which helps to perform the postures. In the end it is important to understand
the control and release factor of the body while the postures are in execution.
