Green Summer Events Around Europe

Viesti Kirjoittaja markuspetz »

Apols for X-posting, this is events around Europe with a Green flavor. Its from the EGP newsletter. But they are not all party political. I'd post other happenings if they are mailed to me.

Introduction
Europe - Make it or Break it!

The European Green Summer University this year is all about Greens of all ages and backgrounds coming together to meet, discuss, look ahead and forge plans for the future. The overarching theme this year is Europe – what it is and what we'd like it to be. The Greens are a growing influence in Europe and have the potential to shape the future form and direction the European project.

We need a new narrative for the 21st century, that can inspire people about what Europe means. This requires a new élan for the development of the EU, and a better sense of where we are heading and what our objectives are.

The central question turns on why Europe is important for Greens. Why a commitment to solidarity is fundamental, on all questions – be they environmental, social or economic, rather than a regressive path of re-nationalisation and opt-outs. Greens have a lot to say about this and we need your voice!

The Summer University is jam-packed with opportunities to be inspired, gain knowledge, and have fun. There is a whole range of activities on offer. On project visits you can get to know the realities of the region, and gain insight into how green policies are applied on the ground. There will also be training sessions on practical issues, and workshops for in-depth discussion and debate in smaller groups. And of course, there will be plenary sessions, where the big issues are tackled, with speeches from some of the most inspiring green leaders in Europe today.

If you belong to a party which has limited resources and would like to attend the summer university, please get in touch with Sandor Blasko (email: sandor.blasko@europeangreens.org ) to find out about the possibilities for receiving support from the EGP under such circumstances.

To find out about the full programme and all the practical details, visit the Green Summer University website.

To register online, visit this page (register before July 20th for a discount on the fee!)

Hungary
4th Summer Academy of Ecopolitics

The Green European Foundation, in cooperation with the Hungarian foundation OMA, is organising a five day Summer Academy near Budapest in mid-August which will focus on a range of Green issues such as feminism, sustainable growth and Citizen participation.

Here is a message from the coordinator of the academy, Áron Gajárszki:

Dear Friend!

You want to change the world, but don’t know where to begin? Got ideas, but no pals to take it to action? Do you long for cleaner air in the city, more jobs in the countryside, tastier bread from the shop, more kindness from the grumpy neighbour, less noise in your street and a fairer world? Share the anger of Arabic revolutionaries and the thousands occupying streets in Spain and Greece? Or would you just like to spend five days away from the problems of the world, yet not forgetting them, together with other cool world saviors? Not just talk the talk but also walk the walk of an ecological life?

Then, from August 10-14, your place is Horány, for the 4th Summer Academy of Ecopolitics: learn, teach, talk, eat, drink, celebrate and chill out with us! A shady, green island is waiting for you, no matter if you are a beginner or advanced activist, where you can learn to take care of the assets we borrowed from our grandchildren…

Germany
Green International Campus

The Green International Campus (GIC) congress will take place in Berlin on 24th - 28th of August 2011. The Congress is organised by Campusgrün Bildungswerk, which is closely related to Campusgrün, the association of green and green alternative political student organisations in Germany. Here is a message from the organisers:

The aim of the event is to connect students and student groups, who are working or interested in ecology, gender politics, climate change, student politics, student conditions and sustainable development. During the congress we will exchange experiences and discuss diverse topics in our workshops with respect to university, education and student life. We want to ask us, how we can improve our campuses to become more green, climate just, tolerant, diverse and equal.

Furthermore, we try to build up a joint network. As more we are as stronger is our voice. European politics strongly influences our national and daily student life. Despite this, there is no European green student network or exchange forum. With the conference we want to take a first step to change this.

The programme of the congress includes workshops and lectures on wide variety of fascinating topics, for example social mobility, student fees, sustainable development, gender, the problems of the Bologna process, international mobility and many others!

You can register here (deadline is July 20th):
