Contact me pronto if you want to go and aged 18-30. I think male or female possible. That you usually end volutary work at 13.30 every day in a capital city means much opportunity to do other things.

„WORK WITH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY HANDICAPPED CHILDREN AND YOUTH”

Overall description:

The voluntary service will be realized through activities which help in integration of children with special needs. SAOP will host two male volunteers – Juan Carlos Moreno Escribano from Spain for a period of 12 months and Burçin YURDAGÜL from Turkey for 10 moths. The main project venue is a Children integration centre and kindergarden in Prague 4. We would like to provide an in-depth look into the integration process. Both of the volunteers will have many opportunities to assist the professionals – e.g.: variety of specialized teaching methods. They will look after the children, play games with them, sing, dance, assist in sport and cultural activities (art therapy, music therapy, dogtherapy). We are also ready to help them with realizing their own new ideas – it can be an exhibition or a preparation of sport activities for children at our garden. They will also take part as an assistant in the children camps which take place in Summer and Winter.

Tasks of volunteer:

Volunteer will spend most of his time in the class of approximately 8 children assisting to one of the handicapped child. He will play with him/her, assist during a lunch time and accompagny the child to a toilet. All of the children go out to a garden once a day. He may also assist to a teacher in one of the other classes focused on healthy children, where there is one handicaped child integrated. He will play games with children, sign with them, prepare leisure time activities...etc. Details of the task are diifficult to define because out of this basic framework, it depends on a volunteer’s preferences and centre’s needs. The volunteer is expected to take part in at lest two camps during his stay in SAOP and also at the 2 “open days” of the centre called “Funny Saturdays”. The volunteer will go for a walk with a canistherapy dog once per day after lunch about 2 times per week.

Time schedule:

The volunteer will work 31 hours per week.

The volunteer will work from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., plus one day in week 3,5 hours in the afternoon. However, the time schedule is flexible - e.g.: if the volunteer participates at weekend or afternoon activities with children, he or she will have free day/afternoon during the week. Both of the volunteers stay in the same class at the beginning of the project for 2 months. Afterwards we we will discuss the posibility of presence in other classes for one or two days in the week (handicapped child often comes only 2 or 3 times a week), it depends on our agreement.

Working hours and days off:

The volunteer gets 2 days of holidays per month. However, as mentioned already via emails, our centre is closed in June and July, but one of the major projects of SAOP is the organisation of several children camps during this time. The volunteer is expected to take part in at lest two camps during his stay in SAOP. Due to the overtimes during these camps in summer, a volunteer will not have to work for two or three weeks after them. However, we expect from the volunteer to keep the majority of his holiday for the summer.

Food and Accommodation:

The volunteer´s accomodation will not be situated in the work place. The volunteers will live together in one flat either with or without a third person (student or EVS volunteer from different organisation). Each volunteer will have his/her own room. (We are currently looking for a flat near to our institution)

The volunteer can lunch in our centre. He can get also the money for food and eat in some restaurant nearby or at home.

Local Transport:

The volunteer will get a municipal transport ticket in the day of arrival. For the first few months the municipal transport ticket will be renewed by the EVS coordinator, when the volunteer gets used to the czech environment, he/she will get money to buy the ticket on his/her own.

Volunteer Allowance: The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance of € 95,- (+money for food).

Language course:

The volunteer will attend the langugage course approximately 4 hours a week according to his or her needs and financial possibilities of the EVS project (due to the prices it is usually possible only for the first 3 months of the project).

Others

In his free time the volunteer will have the possibility to use wi-fi connection in the centre or pc with internet access.

Learning Outcomes:

We want to give young people a chance to feel that they are involved in the social responsibility that the placement has and that they are making an effort by helping. The volunteer will be involved in a community setting e.g. with children, teachers, parents of children etc.

By living and working in a foreign country the volunteer will learn about its culture and social structure and is expected to learn the language of the country.

Through the voluntary work the volunteer will improve his/her social skills. The central point is the personal development of the volunteer through their experience of social service abroad.

The goals are:

-To encourage the volunteer´s awareness of social responsibility

-To enable the volunteer’s intercultural learning

-To help him/her gain insight into the work work with handicapped children

-To develop their capacity to communicate and work in group situations

-To provide him/her a space to decide about their career orientation
