Ecotopia and Copenhagen Meeting at COP 15

Ecotopia? Newsletter!!! 1-21 aug. 2010, Flaeming Region (Germany)

Hallo people,

For a lot of you this will be the first Ecotopia email Newsletter, to
avoid becoming "spam" we kept the amount so far rather low, besides
that not so much was happening other than the normal first local
meetings and getting the local "organisation" slowly in place,
tomorrow f.e. the second local preparation meeting takes place in
Wiesenburg (16.30 hours, in die alte schule), those who are living
close enough and have time, you are invited...

The preparation starts to get in slowly in progress, the Facebook
Ecotopia? 2010 group passed the 800 participants and slowly people are
even start to discuss some topics there, very nice was that number 800
was Lars Igeland, for most of you probebly not ringing a bell, but for
those who know the history of EYFA (Europea Youth Forest Action) a
very known person, he was the one of those who started in Sweden in
1985 the national forest campaign, which was more or less the start of
EYFA, in the last months more and more old EYFA activists has join
this group, people who haven't been in contact with Ecotopia and EYFA
fro many years, but also people who keep being active in the
envirnonmental movement in one way or another... and I have heard of
a lot of children who have been born since we started with EYFA for
almost 25 year, my two sons are not the only "eyfa" or "ecotopia"
kids....

Also active in on our Facebook Page the last week was Medicine Story,
for some of you better known as Manitonquat, the storyteller of the
native american tribe Wampanoag, who had their living grounds
somewhere in the area where now New York lays in the time that the
Dutch arrived there, we are very honoured that he is planning to come
to Ecotopia?, considering that is had he 80th birthday this year and
his own camps who are taking place all over Europa and North America

Reinder van Tijen, nearly the same age, who builded nice toilets for
ecotopia 1990 in Hungary and showed us in 1991 in Geneva during the
preparation of the big Rio conference (1992) how you can build nice
huge information towers for almost no money http://www.demotech.org
.. and so on and so... and it seems that the idea to organise an
Ecotopia? camp for all generations seems to work, allthought the ones
we mentioned here are not the youngest and the other side we see also
mails coming from people who never were on an ecotopia camp, since
they were to young and their parants were not so environmental
active..

COP 15

The next big INTERNATIONAL step in the preparation of Ecotopia? 2010
will be ofcourse the COP15, the big UN Environmental Top, which will
take place from 7 till 18 Dezember in Copenhagen, we heard frommany
different sides from people who are going their, to the Climate
Justice Actions, the Climate Forum, the Roots Conference or any of the
many different actions and conferences will take place in Copenhagen
in that period of time, some from here are going to cook there, with
Rampenplan, to name another old participating group of EYFA and
Ecotopia.

COP 15 and the different meetigs there are with other words a good
place to spread information about Ecotopia? 2010, we hope till than to
have at least an english leaflet ready to spread around, not only for
persons, but also towards organisations which may join in organising
it...

And since COP 15 is almost 2 month away we maybe can organise a small
meeting in that period in Denmark... at the moment we have not yet
fundraised to offer all of you a free tripto the Fläming to a
wintermeeting around new year... therefor it would not be bad if we
use the places where a lot of us will be anyway... as in the early
EYFA days the JUKKS in Germany...

FUNDRAISING

Among you there are some people who are active member or even working
for (environmental) organisations, allthough we hope to keep the
organisational cost of Ecotopia? as low as possible still money is
needed to realize it, for this we are looking for partner
organisations or sponsor, maybe you have an idea...

BIKETOUR

We heard some rumours from Biketours coming from West and from (far)
East but are not sure if something is already in the "pipeline" ... we
hope it is...
