Introduction

The study session “Opportunities and Challenges in Youth Work- Inclusion and conflict solving” will be held at the European Youth Centre in Budapest in the middle of February 2009. The main topics of the study session are concepts such as ethnicity, culture, religion and minorities, multicultural group dynamics, tools to prevent and transform conflict and volunteering in light of the above mentioned issues.

Who?

If you are an active member of your national organisation and have interest in the topic of this study session you can take part in this training course. It is an advantage if you are in a position to function as a multiplier and/or are willing to work further on the issue in your organisation. The study session will be held in English.

When and where

* The training will be held in the European Youth Centre in Budapest. The training will take place from the 15th to the 22nd of February 2008.
* Arrival day is the 15th of February. The programme will start in the evening.
* The end of the programme will be in the evening of the 21st of February.
* Departure day is the 22nd of February, all day.





Price

This training is funded by the Council of Europe. You will only need to pay an enrolment fee of EUR 45, and travel costs (up to a reasonable amount), board and lodging is funded by Council of Europe.

In case selected for this training, you will receive more details concerning all financial and other technical aspects.

Aim and content

The main aim of this activity is to train youth leaders, facilitators and trainers to foster the integration of minorities in and through youth work. On the one hand through focusing on how to adapt organisations to enable active participation of (ethnic) minorities. On the other hand to improve the management of group dynamics and conflicts in multicultural team work in order to take advantage of the possible enrichment that people from different positions and cultures can bring the work.

It is our belief that the one of the reasons for a lack of inclusion in youth organisation is not because of will due to the lack of awareness of the possible benefits and lack of concrete methods which can be used. Too seldom sustainable choices are made and actions taken.

The following issues will be explored:

* Concepts such as ethnicity, culture, religion and minorities and how they can be related to social position in society.
* Multicultural group dynamics.
* Tools to prevent and transform conflicts.
* Volunteering in light of above mentioned issues.



In the end of this document is a provisional schedule of the activity.
