Two weeks have passed since 200 young journalists from Europe met, created media, networked and partied in Brussels. It was an amazing experience for all of them - organizers and participants. European Youth Press wants to thank everybody for sharing passion, spirit, creativity and visions for future media!

At www.youthmediadays.eu you can find all EYMD media productions and hundreds of impressions from the event: 4 TV programs, 2 radio programs, 2 series from photo workshops, outcome from 4 web workshops and 6 magazines. All the participants are more than welcome to take part in other EYP projects.

November will be busy month for all Orange-fans. Small teams will take part in three events in different parts of Europe: the first group in Madrid (Spain) - on Young Leaders Symposium, a second group in Vienna (Austria) - on conference Challenge for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education, and the third one in Wiesbaden (Germany) - on first Youth Regional Network (YRN), which is conceived as a common platform of youth regional organisations/councils/parliaments on regional level in Europe.

> Next edition of European Young Journalist Award - coordinators wanted!

The European Young Journalist Award is a competition on the topic of EU enlargement. People between 17 and 35 years are welcome to participate. This year we will be running "Radio" as a second category alongside the "press article" category.

The competition for 2008/2009 will start on December 1st but already now we are looking for coordinators from the 27 Member States of the European Union or the Candidate Countries (Croatia, Turkey and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) and Potential Candidate Countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia as well as Kosovo under UNSCR 1244) to help with the organization and write for www.eujournalist-award.eu. > Journalist Award begins final sprint

“For Diversity. Against Discrimination”! The countdown to participate in the European Commission diversity and discrimination journalist award is on. On Friday the 31st of October at noon, the entry period to participate will close. The award honors media professionals from both online and printed media who, through their writing, contribute to a better understanding of the benefits of diversity and the fight against discrimination. As in previous years, the European Commission dedicates a special award to one specific theme. This year’s special award celebrates articles examining issues about discrimination of the Roma community.

Articles published between 1st of January and 31st of October 2008 within the EU are eligible for to compete. Journalists who want to participate can submit their article on http://journalistaward.stop-discrimination.info. At the end of the entry period, national juries will gather in all 27 EU Member States to select winning articles. A jury will then be assembled to choose the best three articles and appoint the overall European Journalist Award winner and the European Special Award winner.

> Call for Entries: short film festival

MUNICH INTERNATIONAL is excited to announce the call for entries for next year's short film festival, which takes place directly prior to the "big" Munich Filmfest. Starting on Thursday, June 18th until Wednesday, June 24, 2009, the festival will showcase the world's best contemporary short films each night at the tradition-steeped Gloria Filmpalast in the heart of the Bavarian capitol.

Submissions are open to non-German language films of all genres (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental, music video or other) from any nation of the world. Films must not have been shown in Bavaria at a festival, in a theatre or on television before, and must not exceed a length of 15 minutes. All non-English films must have English subtitles. The festival only screens 35mm prints. The deadline for submissions is February 28, 2009, but we kindly ask that you send your film in as soon as possible, rather than waiting until the deadline. > Course in Foreign Reporting

The Foreign Reporting course (5th January –30th March 2009) is a theoretical and practical course aimed at providing students with the conceptual framework and the practical skills needed to work as a foreign reporter on assignment. The course puts emphasis on multiculturality, ethnicity, cultural minorities and international journalism.

The Foreign Reporting Course consists of: Foreign Correspondence in Practice (5 ECTS credits), International Journalism (5 ECTS credits), Ethnicity, Representation and the Media (5 ECTS credits), Journalism for Cultural Minorities (5 ECTS credits).

> U.S-European Environmental Journalists' Summit

The CSIS Transatlantic Media Network and the Center for Environmental Journalism at the University of Colorado will host the first annual U.S.-European Environmental Journalists' Summit in Boulder, CO, from November 12th to 15th, 2008.

The summit will bring together top environmental journalists from the United States and Europe to compare different approaches to covering the environment and divergent public attitudes on the two sides of the Atlantic. Some of the biggest political differences between Europe and the United States are on major environmental questions, such as how to handle climate change and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). The conference will assess how Europe’s image of the United States and U.S. views of Europe are affected by such disagreements, the threats they pose to greater transatlantic understanding, and how media coverage could be improved.
